Local councillors and community members are celebrating a major milestone in the long-anticipated transformation of Newtown Adventure Playground, affectionately known as “The Venny.” A successful community meeting, held recently, brought together residents, councillors, and council officers to discuss design ideas and plans for the upgraded play space.

Following local campaigning and lobbying by local councillors Cllr Mike Denness, Cllr Toqeer Kataria, and Cllr Jacqui Rayment, the local Labour run city council has now committed £80,000 to deliver the much-needed improvements.

Cllr Jacqui Rayment, Labour Bevois Councillor, commented “We have been working hard on this issue for 18 months, speaking to the community and officers. This was a key election pledge for us, and we’re delighted that by working together with residents, they’ll get the new park they deserve.”

The project will feature new equipment and play facilities designed with input from local families, ensuring it meets the needs of the community. With equipment now on order, work is expected to begin in the coming weeks, with completion planned for late autumn.

This initiative marks a significant step in the council’s commitment to investing in safe, inclusive spaces for children and families, while also strengthening partnerships with local communities.
